I vowed not to discuss football as part of my campaign for CU Regent; the only statement I wanted to make is, all sports should be competitive to build an image of success for CU. However, on signing day NONE of the top 10 Colorado High School football prospects chose to stay in Colorado! Neither CU, or CSU.
Although this is bad for the football programs, it is especially bad for the image of our premier universities because it projects a lack of respect for CU or CSU. For CU, it is important that every public image presents a quality of competitiveness, quality and pride. Since football is the premier source of visibility for CU, the program must become a first choice for all Colorado High School students as a first step in building CU’s public image. Coach Hawkins has gone a long way in improving the ethical image of the program, now his job is to build CU quality image.
